It is unknown whether Purple Thunder Zero Sugar is either a limited-time or a permanent release. Additionally, an update on Purple Thunder's expansion that it would be released in March with the inclusion of 12-pack cans and a Zero Sugar variant release in May 2024. On October 13th, 2023, it was leaked by Team Supernova that Sam's Club-exclusive Berry Monsoon alongside its Zero Sugar variant have been discontinued as confirmed by a DM. On September 29th, 2023, it was leaked by Team Supernova that Purple Thunder is planning to expand to Kroger and Kroger-owned stores in March 2024 while retaining its exclusivity with Circle K only in 20-ounce bottles. It was officially released in Circle K gas stations in the United States on May 2nd, 2022 as a permanent flavor, sold in 20-ounce bottles, soda fountains and later as a froster freeze. Purple Thunder is a Berry Plum flavor of Mountain Dew and has a purple (hence its name) look, partly having a comparable tasting flavor and color to that of Game Fuel (Electrifying Berry).
